Meet Rev. Jo Crisco
Rev. Jo began her ministry in 1981 when she became a licensed clergy member of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. She was ordained in July 1989. Before beginning her ministry in the Montgomery area in August of 2004, Rev. Jo pastored UFMCC churches in Arkansas and Texas. While living in Texas, Rev. Jo was featured as Guest Lecturer at the Brite Divinity School of Texas Christian University and Guest Lecturer and Educator at the Arlington Police Academy. She was the UFMCC representative to the National Council of Churches annual meeting in Ft. Worth, Texas. Some of Rev. Jos most notable work has been in the area of HIV/AIDS. She was a founding member of the Arlington AIDS Coalition and was on the Board of Directors of the Tarrant County (Texas) AIDS Interfaith. Rev. Jo served on the Advisory Committee of Tarrant County HIV Consortium that coordinated the award of HIV funding and the services performed with that funding. She was a host committee member for “All Walks of Life” which was a walkathon to raise money for HIV/AIDS. Her work in HIV/AIDS has also included both preaching the service and participating as a speaker several times in World AIDS Day gatherings. Rev. Jo is committed to the spiritual growth and development of the GLBT community in the Montgomery area. In addition to this, she is also heavily involved in civil rights for our community. She has participated in Hate Crime Rallies and she currently serves on the Alabama Hate Crimes Vigil Committee. In addition, she has talked with several Alabama Legislators about passing a Hate Crimes Bill. On a more personal note, Rev. Jo has two small dogs, and as she states, they are training her very well. In her spare time, she enjoys the cultural arts, reading mysteries and loves the challenge of cooking great tasting but low-fat, low-calorie dishes. |
